These moments of people lost in thought are an attempt to explore escapism as a response to a worsening reality. There is diversity in these ephemeral displays of alienation: Some still dare to daydream of having a better life right here, while others see a better future for them elsewhere, thus escaping both mentally and physically from this reality. Yet a third kind thinks of those better times in the past, when the future seemed brighter.
But photography is in itself a form of escapism, my escapism. It's not just a hobby, an exercise in finding moments, subjects and forms. Photography essentially presents pieces selected out of reality. This lack of context allows me to fit those pieces together into a new, abstract reality. My own universe, a universe I feel comfortable in.
